Wils Nicoll

A run machine for Whorouly CC, his WDCA career extended from 1927 to 1961 and has few parallels for consistency. An easy going character, he was murderous when in full flight. His career spanned the WDCA era of the 1930's through to the 1950's. Also a right arm slow bowler of note.Club - Whorouly CCWDCA Record

Gary Lidgerwood  - 2007

The Wangaratta and District Cricket Association has honored City Colts cricket club
legend, Gary Lidgerwood, by awarding him a life membership at its AGM in August, 2007.

Gary "George" Lidgerwood's career began in 1981/82 when he was recruited from Benalla
to the City Colts Cricket Club by his close friend, Noel Gilbert, when he moved to
Wangaratta in his employment with Patersons Furniture.

In the ensuing 21 seasons of first-eleven cricket for Colts, Lidgerwood won the bowling
averages 15 times.

He also won the second-eleven bowling average in the two seasons following the end of
his first-eleven career.

Lidgerwood is already a life member of the City Colts Cricket Club, having won the club
championship four times, in 1984/85, 85/86, 88/89, and 2003/04.

He also won the first-eleven batting average in 1999/2000.

Lidgerwood was club captain in the 1983/84 season and then again from 1989/90 to
1990/91.

Also a valuable member off the field as he was on it, he was the club treasurer for
four years, secretary for three years and, finally, president for three years from
1997/98 to 1999/2000.

In 1986/87, the Colts' only premiership year, he took a claimed a highly commendable 40
wickets at an average of just 11.6.

He also played in the Colts second-eleven premiership success in 2003/04 where he was
involved in a ninth wicket partnership to snatch an exhilarating victory.

Lidgerwood's success also stood out at Association and higher levels.

He was twice the Association Cricketer of the Year; in 82/83 and 85/86, while winning
the Chronicle Trophy in 82/83.

Lidgerwood has enjoyed a long and successful representative cricket career and is still
actively involved as a selector and team manager of the Colts' senior team.

He represented Wangaratta in the Ensign Cup competition for 21 years from 1981/82 to
2001/02 and was a captain of the team and also a member of 13 premiership teams.

His best returns were 8 for 18 in 1982/83 and 5 for 17, (figures that included a hat
trick) in 81/82.

He represented Wangaratta at Melbourne Country Week for nine years from 1982 to 1991
and was captain of the team for eight of those years during which time his best return
was 7 for 28 in 1987.

He also captained the premiership winning Bendigo Country Week team that played at Swan
Hill in 1983.

Lidgerwood's long cricketing career has been rightfully recognized by the WDCA for his
long list of achievements and dedication to his sport both on and off the field.
